Reigning Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes is sure to be in for a massive contract once his rookie contract runs out, but Travis Kelce is trying to up the price as much as humanly possible, even if it's just a joke. Kelce appeared on the Dan Patrick Show, and wasn't shy about how much he thought Mahomes was worth.

“I think he’s going 50 a year,” Kelce joked. “I think he’s going to make $50 million per year on the field; worth every penny of it.”

The top yearly income for any player going into next season will be Jared Goff, who will make just over $36 million playing quarterback for the Rams next year.

Although the NFL's absence of a max amount allows teams to pay a player $50 million a year, it would be extremely hard for the Chiefs to afford. The salary cap for team spending was set at $188.2 million last year, barring an unprecedented massive one-year jump, finding room for a $50 million contract would be very hard.

Part of Kelce's joke may be true though; no matter how much Mahomes is paid, he will be worth it. The star QB already has two Pro Bowls and a 2018 MVP award to his name, and is only 24 years old.

Kelce, Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs look primed to be competing for Super Bowls for years to come.
