Trevor Bauer Confirms 'Sandlot' Game With Mic'd Up Players is Happening
By Jerry Trotta
The MLB's settlement to suspend Spring Training and postpone the start of its regular season amid the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic has left players and fans mortified thinking how long they have to go without the sport.
As more information and intel regarding COVID-19 is gathered, and more diagnoses are reported across the country and within league circles, the hiatus will likely get pushed back even further.
Well, to help players and fans cope with that daunting reality, Cincinnati Reds hurler Trevor Bauer is brilliantly organizing a Sandlot-themed baseball game in Arizona to pass the time.
Just a few hours after first announcing his plans, Bauer once again took to Twitter to confirm that the game will take place. The former All-Star went as far as to organize live streaming for the event, stating that it will be aired via Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. Fans with accounts on any of those social media platforms will be able to watch the game.
This is truly amazing from Bauer. Perhaps the greatest nugget of this game is that participating players will be mic'd up. Of course, that was a MASSIVE hit on ESPN telecasts during Spring Training.
Bauer is normally a polarizing personality on social media, but the 29-year-old has admirably used his platform to spread happiness during a truly daunting time.
