Trevor Bauer Reportedly Claims to Have Only Been Healthy for '7 or 8 Starts' This Year
By Michael Luciano
If you are to take Trevor Bauer at his word, the Cincinnati Reds might have acquired some damaged goods.
The former Cleveland Indians starter hasn't been able to replicate his amazing 2019 season, as his ERA has jumped from 2.21 to 3.79 and he was leading the AL in walks at the time of his trade. Bauer claims that he was only healthy for less than half of his starts, as he was pitching with torn ligaments in his ankle and back spasms.
With this statement, one of two possible scenarios could be true, both of which are bad for Bauer and the Reds. If this isn't true, than Bauer was lying to cover up for his own poor performance.
If it is true, than the Reds just acquired damaged goods while losing their top prospect in Taylor Trammell and a terrific outfielder in Yasiel Puig.
Considering medical examinations need to be passed and agreed upon before a trade is finalized, apparently Bauer is healthy enough for the Reds to pull the trigger on this deal.
Either way, not everyone in Cincinnati is convinced they didn't get the short end of the stick in this three-team deal, and only Bauer can change that.
