Trevor Bauer Takes Shot at AJ Hinch on Twitter After Astros' Punishment Drops
By Jackson Thompson
Trevor Bauer has been saving this one in his drafts for a while.
Just minutes after the one-year suspensions of Astros manager AJ Hinch and general manager GM Jeff Luhnow were announced, Bauer took to Twitter to chip in. The Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher posted a video of Hinch responding to accusations of cheating, made by Bauer against Astros pitchers back in 2018, with a caption of just two emojis; a tumbler glass and a frog.
The emoji combination refers to the meme of Kermit the Frog sipping from a tea cup with the caption "But that's none of my business." The subtle emoji commentary indicates a smug sense of satisfaction by Bauer in a video in which Hinch claims that "people need to sweep their own front porch and deal with their own situations."
Early in the 2018 season, Bauer, who was then a Cleveland Indian at the time, publicly accused Astros pitchers over Twitter of doctoring baseballs to increase spin rate. Back in November, Bauer made a similar statement when the original report of the Astros stealing signs broke.
Bauer was then lambasted on Twitter by Astros players including Lance McCullers Jr., Collin McHugh and Alex Bregman who incorrectly referred to Bauer as Tyler. McCullers referenced Bauer in a provocative tweet after Bauer's trade from Cleveland to Cincinnati was announced last season.
Now, as a National League pitcher, Bauer will not face the Astros in 2020, barring an in-season trade or a highly unlikely World Series meeting. Given Houston's overhaul which includes the firings of Hinch and Luhow, however, he's unlikely to seek revenge anytime soon.
