Trevor Plouffe Doubles Down on Prior Bombshell MLB Return Report
By Brady Williams
Former MLB infielder Trevor Plouffe recently made a claim that baseball could make its triumphant return in a matter of weeks. Baseball fans rejoiced at his report. His contacts in the league supposedly told him that the plan is to have a second Spring Training period starting on June 10, with the season will start in earnest on July 1. A number of reporters with a finger on the pulse of the league are insisting that there is no clear plan in place yet; that hasn't stopped Plouffe from doubling down on the claim.
After MLB insider Ken Rosenthal wrote that only one team has been weighing the July start, Plouffe claimed that players from six teams were preparing for the plan he leaked.
Plouffe was quick to point out he wasn't trying to discredit Rosenthal, but that they're simply receiving information from different sources. Rosenthal is relying on team officials who are sure to be tight-lipped about the whole process. Plouffe's contacts are personal connections he made in the league in his time as a player, so you've got to think he isn't just getting his chain yanked.
Still not swayed? Former pitcher Phil Hughes also put on his journalism cap to back up Plouffe's claims.
It's hard to say what's true, but as former players, Plouffe and Hughes have some of the closest relationships possible with insider voices. It should be pretty encouraging for fans who just want to watch some baseball at long last.
