VIDEO: Tristan Thompson Somehow Breaks Ben Simmons' Ankles and Then Bricks Wildly Unnecessary Deep 3
By Karl Rasmussen
Tristan Thompson went from hero to zero in a matter of seconds on Tuesday night. Late in the fourth quarter, Thompson was bringing the ball up court, guarded tightly by Ben Simmons. Well, somehow the Cavs' center managed to send Simmons crashing to the floor with a spin move, before deciding to pull up from the logo. The result was...less than ideal. Thompson's shot came nowhere near the rim. It blasted off the backboard and fell right into Joel Embiid's hands.
While Thompson may have thought he was running out of time on the shot clock, he released the ball with more than four seconds remaining, so he certainly could have gotten a better shot off, or you know, passed the ball.
But who can blame the guy? There's no better feeling than breaking a defender's ankles, and as a big fella, Thompson rarely gets presented with an opportunity like this one. Had he hit the shot he would have been the talk of the town, but instead he's fast-tracked his way to SportsCenter's Not Top 10.
Oh, and the Cavs, who were up by five at the time of this play, ended up losing 98-97.
