Twins' Amazing Power Surge Dominated Angels in Record-Breaking Fashion
By Ryan Flores
There was batting practice taking place at Angel Stadium Thursday. The Minnesota Twins officially set the record for most 400-foot homers in a single game in the Statcast era with a whopping seven dingers of such a distance against the Los Angeles Angels, and it was a true sight to see.
The Twins hit a total of eight home runs, tying a franchise record. Mike Trout must be in complete agony.
Minnesota has now hit five or more homers in a single game six times through 49 games, the fastest such mark in MLB history by a 16-game margin. They now have 97 home runs on the season, which beats the Seattle Mariners by seven for the top spot.
The Twins are currently on a pace to hit 320 home runs, which would shatter all MLB single-season record for any team. The next-best slugging team would be the 2018 New York Yankees, who smashed 267 dingers.
After a disappointing year in 2018, the Twins have seriously bounced back, producing the most runs in the majors, and they're likewise among the league-leaders in batting average, slugging, and OPS. Their success at the plate has resulted in a 33-16 record, good for a league-best .673 winning percentage.
Manager Rocco Baldelli seems to be building something special in Minnesota. Could this be the year they make a run at the World Series? They've certainly got the power.
