VIDEO: Twins Minor League Team Throws Surprise 80th Birthday Party for Superfan and Invites Her Favorite Player
Anyone who has been to a minor league baseball game knows the unique atmosphere at every one of those ballparks. The crowds may sometimes be scarce, but there are still superfans in every city who live and die with those teams. Ro Bergman is a fan of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, the Double-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, and just celebrated her 80th birthday. Since she can't come out to the ballpark as usual, the team decided to give her an awesome surprise via video chat.
Bergman got to talk with some members of the organization and even spoke with her favorite player, Taylor "Gelly" Grzelakowski. She also got a signed baseball, and was clearly getting emotional during what ended up being a great birthday surprise.
The Blue Wahoos appear to be quite the cool organization, and have even opened up an Airbnb in the ballpark, open to any and all fans.
This is a tough time for minor league baseball and also for those around the country who must avoid contact with others. Members of the Blue Wahoos organization took a little bit of time out of their day, and it meant the world to one of their biggest fans. We could use some more stories like this as the summer rolls along.
