Twins Reportedly Pulling Out of Dodgers-Red Sox Mookie Betts Trade Over Brusdar Graterol Fiasco
By Mark Powell

UPDATE: Initial reports suggested the Twins would be pulling out of the deal, but there have since been some conflicting responses. According to others, Minnesota has not backed out and are willing to renegotiate in an "attempt to work through it."
Twins have not backed out of initial 3-team trade that would send Mookie Betts to the Dodgers, I'm told. They are willing to renegotiate and attempt to work through it, though whether it ultimately gets figured out is uncertain. All sides want a resolution by reporting date.

Over the past week, baseball fans have become more familiar than we ever thought necessary with the medical records of one Brusdar Graterol, a top-100 prospect with the Minnesota Twins. Unfortunately, the Red Sox failed to do that same level of due diligence before acquiring Graterol as part of the Mookie Betts trade which was agreed upon Monday night with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Without the second top-100 prospect in the deal, the Dodgers and Red Sox now must work the compensation out among themselves, or find a different third team to work with. The Twins are reportedly out.

As of just a few short days ago, Betts seemed certain to head to Los Angeles. Suddenly, the Red Sox have several options -- either remain stubborn about the need to shed Betts and David Price's payroll figure, or back out entirely and make one last run with their core intact.
Confirmed: Minnesota #Twins now pull out of Mookie Betts trade, as @LaVelleNeal first reported, leaving #Redsox and #Dodgers to complete trade themselves.

As a result of this inefficient process, Kenta Maeda will also remain an LA Dodger, and Graterol's name has been dragged through the mud despite the fact any Twins scout (and even some beat writers) could've told you about his injury history and the likelihood he projects as a relief pitcher, rather than a starter. Not to mention, Scott Boras, Graterol's agent, reportedly took offense to the Red Sox's inability to look past his medicals.
Instead, this entire process caught Boston by surprise, when a simple Google search would've sufficed.
