Twins Reportedly Considering Shifting Miguel Sano to First and Signing Josh Donaldson
By Chris Russo
Despite pacing the major leagues -- and setting an all-time record -- with their 307 homers in 2019, the Twins are still looking to add to their lineup, while also improving on defense.
Per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Twins are reportedly interested in acquiring third baseman Josh Donaldson in free agency.
While there are various other clubs interested in Donaldson, including the Braves, Dodgers and Nationals, the Twins have also emerged as a potential landing spot.
Acquiring Donaldson would bring yet another power bat to the Bomba Squad. Donaldson mashed 37 homers last year while slashing .259/.379/.521. In order to keep him in his primary position at third base, the Twins would consider shifting fellow slugger Miguel Sano over to first base.
Sano has been less than stellar at the hot corner throughout his career, so the move across the diamond would make a ton of sense, especially considering the significant defensive upgrade Donaldson would provide at third.
For a team already loaded with sluggers in the lineup, defense seems like a natural focal point for the Twins this offseason.
