Twins Reportedly Sign Michael Pineda to 2-Year Deal
By Scott Rogust
The Minnesota Twins shocked the baseball world this past season by winning the AL Central crown. With 2020 on the horizon, the Twins opted to re-sign a piece from their starting rotation.
According to Pierre Noujaim of FOX 9 Minneapolis, the Twins have re-signed starting pitcher Michael Pineda to a two-year contract, worth $20 million, pending a physical.
After being released by the New York Yankees after four seasons in the Bronx, the Twins took a chance on Pineda by signing him to a two-year, $10 million deal. However, Pineda missed the entire 2018 season due to a torn meniscus in his knee.
Pineda didn't flash the greatest stuff in his debut season with the Twins, but Minnesota's bats helped lead him to wins. In 26 games, Pineda recorded a 11-5 record, along with a 4.01 ERA and 1.16 WHIP.
Yet, his season would come to an end after being suspended for 60 games for testing positive for a diuretic, commonly used to mask PED's.
Despite the suspension, the Minnesota Twins liked what they saw from Michael Pineda, and decided to lock him in for the next two seasons.
