Twins Reportedly Targeting Former Yankees Reliever Dellin Betances in Effort to Bolster Bullpen
By Michael Luciano
The New York Yankees could be in danger of losing one of the most electric relievers in all of baseball.
Dellin Betances could look to leave the Bronx after an injury-riddled 2019 season in an attempt to remind everyone how deserving he is of a multi-year contract. The Minnesota Twins, owners of an abysmal bullpen last year, could reportedly make a move to bring him in.
When he's healthy and has command of his breaking ball, there's not much opposing batters can do. The four-time All-Star averages 14.6 strikeouts per nine innings, and has posted an ERA over 3.00 just once in his last five healthy seasons.
However, Betances pitched to just two batters last year due to injuries, including a partial Achilles tear, causing his value to drop considerably after barely getting on the mound.
Betances, who could form a nasty duo with left-hander Taylor Rogers in the Minnesota bullpen, has also been discussed by the New York Mets due to his connection with new manager and former teammate Carlos Beltran.
The Yankees, after focusing all of their efforts on Gerrit Cole, could very well see Betances slip away if others interested prove to be aggressive.
