Twins Savagely DFA Addison Reed During Rehab Assignment
By Sean Facey
What just happened to Addison Reed is absolutely brutal.
The Minnesota Twins thought so little of the big-ticket right-handed reliever that they actually designated him for assignment in the middle of his rehab stint in Triple-A Rochester.
The Twins made the move in order to make room on the 40-man roster for right-hander Austin Adams.
Reed certainly didn't do himself any favors, though; he allowed eight runs on 13 hits in five innings of work in the minors. He had also coughed up four home runs.
Though a savage move on the part of the Twins, Reed's horrific performance certainly made the decision that much easier.
The eight-year MLB veteran was attempting to work his way back from a thumb sprain that prevented him from appearing at the major league level this season.
The fact that he was topping out in the high 80s on his fastball didn't help make his situation any better. It had been dropping steadily from the mid-90s over the past two seasons.
Five innings may have been a small sample size, but the Twins apparently didn't care.
