On Tuesday, the Minnesota Twins made a low-risk move and signed veteran right-handed pitcher Carlos Torres to a minor league deal. Torres began the season with the Detroit Tigers but elected free agency instead of accepting a minor league assignment.

In four appearances out of the Tigers bullpen this year, Torres posted a 7.50 ERA and allowed five runs on nine hits with eight strikeouts over six innings.

Torres is in his 10th big league season and this will be his seventh team, including the Chicago White Sox, New York Mets and Milwaukee Brewers.

This isn't the big addition the Twins are likely to make ahead of the trade deadline to augment their pitching staff, but Torres could be valuable out of the bullpen if he reaches the big leagues.

In 362 career appearances, Torres owns a 30-31 record with a 4.09 ERA and has 447 strikeouts over 506.2 innings.
