Twins to Extend 2 Members of Baseball Operations Department Including GM Thad Levine
By Mark Powell

After a surprising 2019 campaign in which the Minnesota Twins won the AL Central in a landslide, they're rewarding their own.
The Twinkies finished the season with 101 wins, before falling in a familiar spot in the ALDS to the New York Yankees. However, a record-breaking year should not be overlooked, and Minnesota's strong farm system and player development focus is paying off at the major league level. Because of this, the Twins have extended two members of their baseball operations staff in GM Thad Levine and Chief Baseball Officer Derek Falvey.

Falvey was at one point mentioned as a candidate for the Red Sox GM opening before they struck a deal with Chaim Bloom. Falvey's Massachusetts roots were not enough to sway him to Boston, as he's highly valued in the Twins organization, and it's fair to assume his new deal reciprocates that trust in monetary form.
Levine and Falvey are both under 50 years old, giving the Twins front office a younger braintrust to surround their core with the right supporting piece in hopes of making a deep playoff run in 2020.
The #MNTwins have extended the contracts of both chief baseball officer Derek Falvay and general manager Thad Levine through 2024. Both were under contract through 2021 but have had their deals redone.

By getting ahead of things (neither's contract was set to expire until 2021), the Twins ownership has rewarded success, and will now turn their focus elsewhere to improving the on-field talent.
