Twins to Reportedly Sign Ex-Angels and Indians Closer Cody Allen
By Adam Weinrib
One former division rival appears to have found a new home towards the back end of the Minnesota bullpen.
As the Twins attempt to fend off the Cleveland Indians from a distance for first place as the summer drags on, it looks like they'll have the help of an old enemy.
Recently released by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, following a failed free agent tenure, Cody Allen looks to be roosting at the top of the AL Central.
Allen's 2019 season, other than the strikeout rate, has been an abject disaster; he's whiffed 29 in 23 innings, but has a 6.26 ERA and only racked up four saves out west.
He scuffled in 2018 as well in Cleveland, seeing his ERA balloon to 4.70, following five consecutive seasons below 3.00. Allen's known for a high-wire act, but that display of consistency isn't typical for modern relievers
If they can find lightning in a bottle, combined with the revenge factor, Minnesota might just have themselves a new angle.
