Two Mississippi State Players Reportedly Critically Injured in Overnight Accident
By Chris Russo
The Mississippi State Bulldogs football program is reeling Wednesday.
Two of its players were critically injured in a car accident on Tuesday.
WCBI in Mississippi is reporting two unidentified players were critically injured when their car collided with the back of an 18-wheeler on Highway 25, which runs just west of Mississippi State's campus and south through Oktibbeha County. The two players were then airlifted to a hospital in Jackson, approximately 100 miles away.
A third player was also involved in the crash, though his injuries are not significant.
Neither the Mississippi Highway Patrol nor Mississippi State University has released any further information on the matter, though the Highway Patrol is currently investigating the accident.
The Bulldogs have not played since finishing the regular season 6-6 after defeating the Ole Miss Rebels 21-20 on Nov. 28. They are not scheduled to play again until they face the Louisville Cardinals in the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl in Nashville on Dec. 30.
They'll be playing for a whole lot more in a couple weeks now. Thoughts are with the players' families at this time.
