The New Orleans Saints went out and added another dynamic weapon to their already loaded offense this offseason when they signed Ty Montgomery, who boasts experience at running back, wide receiver and on special teams.

If the Saints were smart, they'd take full advantage of Montgomery's versatility, and, according to running backs coach Joel Thomas, they are going to do just that.

"I see a Swiss Army knife," Thomas told reporters. "The worst thing we could do right here today is sit there and pigeonhole and say, hey, you’re going to be put in this position, and that’s it."

In all likelihood, Montgomery will start behind the likes of Alvin Kamara and Latavius Murray on the RB depth chart, but these comments make it seem like New Orleans is fully prepared to get him as many reps as possible.

Once upon a time, the former third-round pick was a staple in the Green Bay Packers offense. His best year came in 2016, when he posted 457 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 5.9 yards per carry. He even added 44 receptions for 348 yards in the passing game.

Montgomery has since bounced around with the likes of the Ravens and Jets, where he really struggled to find consistent playing time. Over the last two seasons, the Stanford product has totaled just 111 touches, which means that he'll be fresh and ready to get to work with the Saints.

That's great news for fans in New Orleans, as head coach Sean Payton and Co. appear ready to help Montgomery realize his full potential as an NFL player.
