Tyler Boyd Absurdly Claims to Have Won Matchup Against Patriots CB Stephon Gilmore
By Scott Rogust
The Week 15 matchup between the New England Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals was clouded by the ongoing Spygate 2.0 controversy surrounding the six-time Super Bowl champions. As it turns out, the Patriots needed absolutely no help in defeating the one-win Bengals, as they trounced them 34-13, despite a shaky first half.
After the game, Bengals wide receiver Tyler Boyd boisterously claimed that he won "the majority" of the one-on-one matchup against Patriots premier cornerback Stephon Gilmore, but the stats post-game proved otherwise.
That's right. Cincinnati signal caller Andy Dalton targeted Boyd six times on Sunday afternoon, resulting in just two receptions and 24 yards.
As for Gilmore, he got two pass breakups and two interceptions, one of which was a pick-six. Is there really even a debate to be had here?
How can Boyd even suggest with a straight-face that he got the better of Stephon Gilmore? In all reality, Gilmore secured his 2019 Defensive Player of the Year candidacy at Boyd's expense, as the Pats star now has a league-leading six interceptions on the season.
The opposition of the New England Patriots usually poke the proverbial bear before the game, but Tyler Boyd opted to do so afterwards...with a meager stat-line as his evidence.
It would do Boyd well to look over some game film afterwards, maybe he'll realize just how badly he was dismantled by Gilmore on Sunday.
