Tyler Herro's Comments on Kentucky Are Exactly Why John Calipari Will Always Dominate Recruiting

There were three players out of Kentucky this year that were selected in the first round of the NBA draft, with all of them having real potential. However, Tyler Herro has been the one who has delivered on that potential first at NBA Summer League, as he's been on a tear with the Miami Heat. He's averaging 21.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.7 assists through three games in Las Vegas.

After Tuesday night's win over the Orlando Magic, Herro gave his college coach, John Calipari, some serious credit for helping him develop into a pro-ready player. He said that it was the "best decision ever" to play for the Wildcats.

Coach Cal has been one heck of a recruiter over his years in Lexington, getting commitments from guys like De'Aaron Fox, Jamal Murray, Karl-Anthony Towns, Devin Booker, Anthony Davis, and John Wall, to say nothing of landing guys like Derrick Rose at Memphis. All of these players have either signed contracts worth at least $100 million, or are in line to do so.

This has to be very enticing for high school players.

This year's recruiting class will be more of the same for UK. They were able to get three 5-star players (per 247Sports) in Kahlil Whitney, Keion Brooks, and Tyrese Maxey, as well as two 4-star recruits in Johnny Juzang and Dontaie Allen. Calipari has also done some work with the 2020 recruiting class, making offers to big-name high school prospects like Jalen Johnson, Jalen Green, and Cade Cunningham.

Clearly so many players want to join Calipari's system because he treats them like professionals, and gets them ready for the pros better than most other college programs. As his list of players with NBA success grows, Calipari will continue to attract the attention of the best basketball prospects the game has to offer.
