Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf Need More Credit for Seahawks' Passing Game Success
By Andy Loughmiller
Russell Wilson is one of the frontrunners in the race for MVP this season. Wilson deserves all of the praise he's getting, but his top two receivers need to be recognized a bit more for their contributions.
The Seattle Seahawks are 7-2 on the year, thanks in large part to the emergence of Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf as one of the best receiving duos in the entire league.
Both Lockett and Metcalf had big days in Seattle's Week 9 overtime win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They accounted for 73% of the Seahawks' passing yards in the game.
Lockett is having a sensational year in his fifth NFL season. He is playing at an All-Pro level. Many people categorized him as a gadget player and return specialist when he first came into the league, but now he has developed into one of the most productive receivers in all of football.
Lockett's rookie counterpart is also outperforming expectations. The second round pick out of Ole Miss is making a ton of big plays for the Seahawks in the passing game. Metcalf is averaging over 18 yards per reception in his first season as a pro.
Russell Wilson may be the engine of Seattle's passing offense, but Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf are the fuel. The Seahawks' air attack may become even more dangerous in the coming weeks now that they've added Josh Gordon to their receiving corps.
