Tyler Skaggs' Wife Delivered Touching Eulogy at His Funeral
By Sean Facey
The death of 27-year-old pitcher Tyler Skaggs on July 1 rocked the baseball world to it's core, but there's nobody who had more of a weight to bear than his wife, Carli.
But in an incredibly heartwarming moment at his funeral, the former Los Angeles Angels pitcher's wife of almost a year delivered an incredibly touching eulogy.
"When I look back at our life together, I have no regrets," Carli said. "We said 'I love you' every hour. We never missed an opportunity to say how fortunate we are to have found our true love...You are my forever soulmate, lover, confidante and best friend. You are my rock and I know you are by my side helping me to move forward one step at a time."
She was one of 14 people to speak at his funeral. Former teammates Andrew Heaney and Garrett Richards also took the time to deliver heartfelt messages as they said their goodbyes.
Her emotional words were a reminder that the players we so often fawn over or scrutinize have lives away from the game, lives that are connected deeply to the people they love.
And though it was a tough day for both Carli and Skaggs' former teammates as they paid their respects, it was good to see them make sure everyone knows just how much he was loved.
