Tyler Wade is Definitely Making the Playoff Roster and Yankee Fans Need to Accept it
By Chris Russo
The New York Yankees are anxiously waiting for the playoffs to get here and fans are even more intrigued with the team's 25-man roster.
However, they might have to cope with the unpopular idea that Tyler Wade will be joining the team beyond the first week of October.
Though Wade has been beyond frustrating for much of the year, he's the epitome of a fundamental baseball player in an era where we have focused way too much on the home run ball. He's a skilled fielder and uses his speed to his advantage.
In 31 games this season, Wade is slashing .250/.341/.347 with 12 runs scored, 1 homer, 8 RBI and 6 stolen bases. He'll be a guy that can provide defensive depth and pinch run, which will be extremely valuable.
Given the injury issues with Edwin Encarnacion, Mike Tauchman and Aaron Hicks, Wade will likely get the nod. Not only that, but Clint Frazier has barely been playing, so at this point it's doubtful the team will carry him on the roster.
It's also fair to say Wade has more value and experience than Thairo Estrada, Mike Ford and Breyvic Valera.
The Yankees also might carry fewer pitchers considering they'll go to either a three-man or four-man rotation and will be able to move one or two starters into long relief.
So don't be surprised when you see Tyler Wade take the field in some capacity during postseason baseball.
