Tyrann Mathieu Shows Love for Clyde Edwards-Helaire Pick With Simple Reaction
By Brady Williams
On Thursday night, the Kansas City Chiefs saved the running back position from being underrepresented on the first night of the draft at the very last minute. With pick No. 32, they selected LSU Tigers running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
Though the national champion wasn't always the top back on a lot of draft boards, there's a lot to like about the pick, and it seems Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu was a pretty big fan of his team's selection.
Mathieu immediately tweeted a nice emoji to show some support for his fellow LSU Tiger and new teammate.
And yes, Patrick Mahomes retweeted it.
The heart, in fitting LSU purple, was a nice way to send some love to the young player, and for Mathieu, there's plenty to love about the Chiefs' situation right now. They've just won the Super Bowl, and they're returning 20 of their 22 starters for 2020. Now, one of the new guys is officially on board, and his big play-making abilities make him a great fit for the Chiefs, who needed a ground attack.
Kansas City had an astounding passing game last season; however, neither of their top rushers eclipsed 500 yards. A more consistent rushing attack would've made their journey to the Super Bowl even easier, and now they've gotten a guy who could be an instant difference-maker, with Damien Williams due a big pay day following this season. Mathieu wasn't the only Chief to celebrate the pick.
Edwards-Helaire rushed for over 1,400 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2019. He'll add a new dimension to an already dynamic offense, and frankly, the whole team is even scarier than they were last season. Edwards-Helaire can rest easy on that and the support of his new teammates.
