UFC Champ Jon Jones Arrested for DWI and Negligent Use of Firearm in New Mexico
For all of his amazing accomplishments as a fighter, Jon Jones can't seem to stay out of headlines outside the octagon. Once again, he's in some rough trouble with the law.
According to multiple reports, the UFC Light Heavyweight champion was arrested in the wee hours of Thursday morning for DWI and negligent use of a firearm. He was charged with these crimes in New Mexico.
According to the police report obtained by MMAFighting.com, Jones was pulled over in Albuquerque at around 1 a.m. In addition to the two charges mentioned above, Jones was also cited for possession of an open container and no proof of insurance for the vehicle he was driving.
Per the MMA site, officers responded to the sounds of gunfire and found Jones inside of the car. The star fighter then admitted to drinking earlier in the evening and driving. He was given multiple breathalyzer tests, failing both of them.
While Jones is considered among the best UFC fighters of all time with his 26-1-0 record, his arrests over the years no doubt have tainted his legacy. For now, he'll have to deal with the consequences of his actions in court, and see if he'll face any kind of penalty from the UFC.
