VIDEO: Home Plate Umpire Jeff Nelson Exits Yankees-Astros Game 3 After Foul Tips Off Face
By Adam Weinrib

As Luis Severino strode to the mound for his fifth inning of work Tuesday evening, play was interrupted by a surprising delay. An inning after home plate umpire Jeff Nelson was struck by his second solid foul tip of the day -- that one off the bat of Martin Maldonado -- he decided he could not continue despite a valiant attempt to do so. Nelson signaled to his fellow umpires, ushering in an extended delay.

Veteran umpire Kerwin Danley will enter in Nelson's place, shifting from second base to behind the plate. To compensate for the change, there will be no left field umpire for the remainder of the game.
I was incorrect. Kerwin Danley is the new plate umpire with the injury to Jeff Nelson.

Those on site at Yankee Stadium are preaching a 10-minute delay (after all, it isn't easy to strap the full outfit of heavy gear on), but others have mentioned they've seen these breaks last a bit longer.
Best wishes to Nelson, who certainly took the brunt of the baseball on multiple occasions.
