United States Women's Team Hides US Soccer Crest on Warm-Ups as They Continue to Fight for Equal Pay
By Michael Luciano
The United States women's soccer team is tired of not being compensated the same as the men's team and they have officially started to make some headlines by way of jarring protests, especially after ridiculous information from their lawsuit surfaced this week.
In the warm-ups before a SheBelieves Cup match against Japan, all the players in this game have obscured the US Soccer crest on their jerseys.
This comes days after it became known US Soccer argued in court that the reason male players are paid more than female players despite a lighter schedule and less success was the fact that "indisputable science" claims playing on the men's team "requires a higher level of skill" and "carries more responsibility," which is about as misogynistic a statement as there is.
This is a "gloves off" type of statement from the women's team, which has made it clear they aren't going to accept any sort of deal in the name of "getting this over with," nor are they going to give up their crusade anytime soon.
The women's team isn't going to let old, angry guys on Twitter dissuade them in their quest for equal and/or fair compensation. This is certainly a striking gesture, but it's one that could force US Soccer back to the negotiating table.
