Unsubstantiated Odell Beckham Jr. Trade Rumors Are Swirling and NFL Fans Are Freaking Out
By Scott Rogust
The Cleveland Browns, whom many crowned as the "NFL Offseason Champions," are off to a 2-3 start to their 2019 season. A lot of the blame has been placed on the uncharacteristic performance of a stacked offense.
However, their latest blowout loss to the San Francisco 49ers has some suggesting head coach Freddie Kitchens could be on the hot seat, and that ... Odell Beckham Jr. could be traded?!
According to the latest rumors, Beckham Jr., who has just 23 catches for 335 yards and one touchdown, could be on the move if the Browns continue to falter, though the veracity of this speculation is unclear.
Instagram account "JPAFootball \\:" (with 127K followers!) sent out a post which says a source told them the Browns are reportedly "listening" to offers for Beckham, with the New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles, and San Francisco 49ers showing interest.
Granted, this is what it is -- a rumor -- so any avid NFL fan knows to take this with a grain of salt. Of course, there are those who take rumors as gospel and then proceed to lose their minds.
Patriots fans want every star under the sun, so this isn't a surprise.
Beckham could easily be the replacement for Antonio Brown, after his tenure lasted about six months in Oakland.
However, others with sources inside the NFL stress that there's no truth to the rumors of Cleveland moving on from Beckham, not even halfway through the season.
Let's not forget that trade rumors surrounded Beckham with the New York Giants for the past calendar year. General manager Dave Gettleman insisted that the team didn't sign Beckham to a new contract in order to trade him. Weeks after that statement, Gettleman traded him to the Browns.
Still, this is a pretty extreme rumor and fans shouldn't take it at face value, even though it's a realistic possibility that could turn the league upside down again.
