Unverified White Sox Writer Had Yoan Moncada Extension Scoop a Week Ago
By Evan Wolff
Fans with sources can be some of the funniest experiences on Twitter. Almost every MLB offseason and trade season, random accounts with fans claiming to have sources will make some of the most outlandish announcements, that 99% of the time are immediately debunked, with embarrassing attention drawn to the original account that tweeted it.
However, once in a blue moon, a random fan will beat even the best insiders to a trade scoop, and earn their fifteen minutes of fame with a credit tag. That is exactly what happened today with the Yoan Moncada extension news, as Jon Heyman noted that the first person with the scoop was a random twitter handle named @JamesFox917, who had the details 10 days ago.
James Fox is actually a White Sox writer with quite a significant following, so it isn't a completely random fan who hit a home run on getting trade details first. However, to beat the big names of the sport like Rosenthal, Heyman, and Passan to the punch is an accomplishment worth bragging about, and most definitely adds credibility to your name.
Also it's hilarious that Heyman quoted the tweet, and still typed out the wrong username for James Fox.
Seeing as he already has the trust of Chicago White Sox fans, this will only help to amplify Fox's platform and enhance his credibility.
