Urban Meyer Actually Agreed With Jim Harbaugh on Something and It's Officially the Apocalypse
By Scott Rogust
Michigan Woverines head coach, Jim Harbaugh, has never been afraid to speak his mind regarding the game of football. Earlier this week, Harbaugh wrote a letter expressing his belief that freshman and sophomore football players should be allowed to test out the NFL Draft process and if they don't get selected, they'd be allowed to return to school.
Former Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer has usually been the biggest thorn in the side of Harbaugh. But Meyer actually agreed with his rival, officially making 2020 one weird year.
“As much as I get challenged on whether or not I agree with Coach Harbaugh, I thought it was a great letter. I thought there were some great points in it,” Meyer said. “There is actually a group of coaches that have been having conversations about this. Anytime a player wants to test the market and become a professional athlete, go do it.”
Meyer actually agrees with Harbaugh? Are we living in a bizarro world?
Harbaugh wants the draft process to to "empower the student-athlete." Basketball players are allowed to declare for the NBA Draft after one year in college, so the Michigan Man wants to know why football players can't do the same.
While Meyer mentions that he and various other college coaches agree with Harbaugh, he does say that this could make awarding scholarships to players more difficult. To be specific, they'd have to monitor how many scholarships they can hand out, especially if players go undrafted and ultimately end up returning to campus.
Despite that, Meyer is fully behind Harbaugh's idea. Whether his proposition will be approved by the NCAA remains the question.
