Urban Meyer Gushing Over the Florida Gators Will Make Ohio State Fans Sick

It would appear that Urban Meyer isn't making any effort to appease fans in Columbus this week. First, the former Ohio State head coach rated Clemson signal caller Trevor Lawrence ahead of Buckeyes gunslinger Justin Fields in his QB rankings for the 2020 season. Now, Meyer is sending some love to Florida, where he coached from 2005-2010 before his big money move to OSU.

On Wednesday, the FOX Sports analyst discussed the potential of Gators wide receiver Trevon Grimes, as well as the team's chances to qualify for the College Football Playoff this upcoming campaign.

"Recognizable or household names correlate right with great teams," Meyer told FOX Sports. "Because there's a lot of great players out there on bad teams you never hear about. They're not on TV, they're just not in the conversation. So I went with Trevon Grimes at Florida. I think Florida is gonna have a heck of a year. If they stay healthy, I'm picking them to be a playoff team."

To be fair, Grimes started at Ohio State under Meyer before transferring down to Gainesville. But still.

Somewhere in Columbus, thousands of Buckeyes fans are pulling their hairs out one by one, and understandably so. Meyer having lofty expectations for Florida isn't a huge surprise when you consider that the Gators have finished No. 6 and No. 7 in the final polls across the last two years, but they aren't in the same tier in the SEC as teams like LSU, Alabama, and Georgia quite yet.

Gators boss Dan Mullen, a former Meyer assistant, is certainly one of the most underappreciated coaches in the nation, so maybe it's not outlandish to think that Florida will make a leap into college football's final four under his tutelage in Year 3. As for Buckeyes Nation, well, they have every right to take issue with Meyer's Orange and Blue love fest. The man's allegedly an Ohio native, after all.
