USA Basketball's 44-Man Preliminary Roster for 2020 Olympics Totally Misspells JaVale McGee
By Sam Dunn
The usual suspects are all there, just where you thought they'd be. And when the 2020 Summer Olympics tip off in Tokyo, you can bet that Team USA Men's Basketball will be led by the likes of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, James Harden, and Kawhi Leonard, and Steph Curry.
But at least for now, long before the squad is whittled down to 12 fighting-fit superstars, we have the preliminary list of 44 players from which that final group will later emerge.
And it includes someone we've never heard of named "Javale McGree."
This sounds a whole lot like a man we know named JaVale McGee of the Los Angeles Lakers, a man who jumps sometimes and maybe other times eats or sleeps.
They cannot possibly be the same person. If they were, the letters in their names would match. The letters in their names do not match, and USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo would never be as imprecise as this. There is clearly something afoot here.
Other potential double-take inclusions here include San Antonio's Derrick White, Sacramento's Harrison Barnes and Denver's Mason Plumlee, who are absolutely certain to miss the final cut by a long shot, as will guys like Kevin Love, Marcus Smart, Andre Drummond and Mike Conley. But no single humanoid on here caught our eye like Mr. McGree.
You truly bewitched our hearts.
