Grad Transfer Guard Abel Porter Announces Commitment to Ohio State
By Andrew Gullotta
Utah State's Abel Porter has one more season of college basketball to play, and he's doing it in a new home. The Aggies point guard announced Saturday on Twitter that he's joining the Ohio State Buckeyes as a graduate transfer.
Porter will give Ohio State some much-needed veteran depth, as the team only had two seniors on the roster in 2019-20 and have suffered multiple departures this spring. Playing in a stacked Big Ten, Porter's contributions will be crucial next season.
Porter's stats don't jump off the page, as he averaged just over five points and three assists per game with the Aggies last season, but senior leadership is never a bad thing to have. He'll be counted on as a facilitator to help get the ball to standouts like Kaleb Wesson and Duane Washington Jr.
Notably, he also doesn't turn the ball over, as Porter's 2:1 assist to turnover ratio was fifth-best in the Mountain West Conference in the past season.
Porter is not a splash move that will steal headlines, but you can count on him to be a steady hand for the Buckeyes for his final college season.
