By Karl Rasmussen

Carlos Gomez had an up-and-down career in the big leagues, but he still managed to stick around for 13 years. The outfielder just recently turned 34, and he's decided it's as good a time as any to announce the end of his playing career.
Per Bob Nightengale, Gomez plans to retire from MLB at the conclusion of this offseason's Dominican League.

Gomez, who spent six seasons in Milwaukee, hopes to retire as a member of the Brewers.
Across his 13 seasons, Gomez slashed .252/.313/.411 with 145 home runs and 546 RBI. His best seasons came with the Brew Crew in 2013 and 2014. During that two-year span, he made two All-Star teams and hit 47 home runs while driving in 146 RBI.
Those two seasons were the only ones in which Gomez featured in the All-Star Game.

In 2019, Gomez was a member of the New York Mets, appearing in 34 games and hitting three homers, batting for a .198 average. Having played for six teams since 2016, the writing was certainly on the wall for his retirement, and the Dominican plans to make it official in the near future.
