VIDEO: Aaron Hicks Hits MLB's First-Ever Europe Homer With a 2-Run Shot off Rick Porcello
By Parker White
Okay, remember this for trivia purposes. Who was the first player to hit a home run in Europe? That would be New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks, who destroyed a 2-2 pitch for a two-run blast to extend the Yankee lead to 6-0 in the first inning.
Trust me people of the UK, this doesn't happen that often.
That was all she wrote for Rick Porcello, as Hicks' homer took Boston Red Sox starter out of the game after getting just one out. He exits the game with a towering 162.00 ERA at London Stadium.
I hope this early barrage of offense doesn't give people of the UK the wrong idea about baseball. Games are usually a lot closer and don't get out of hand this quick, especially in this rivalry. However, the Yankees offense is a monster and it doesn't matter what continent they are playing on, but London Stadium's centerfield wall only extends 385-feet, so this offensive outburst may not let up.
