VIDEO: Albert Pujols Hustling on Double Will Make You Sad About the Passage of Time
By Adam Weinrib
Ahh, youth. It's so great, because it's fleeting. Remember being young? The year was 2001. "Dude, Where's My Car?" was only a year old, Al Gore hadn't come up with a Plan B yet, and a lithe former third baseman named Albert Pujols was bursting into the bigs with the St. Louis Cardinals, blessed by impressive speed. Well, now it's 2019, and Pujols is 39 years old, plays in Los Angeles, and is trying his darndest to round the bases every time he lines a pitch to the outfield. Unfortunately, it looks like this.
Rest assured, this is with the extra effort. As Pujols slid in just ahead of the Xander Bogaerts tag, he was beating his season averages by a significant margin.
He just wanted it more.
Someday, this will be you and me. Someday, this will be all of us. We'll wake up one morning, and we simply won't be able to smoothly dig for second anymore when we rocket a liner against Brian Johnson (and yes, you and I can both hit Brian Johnson).
Time comes for all Hall of Famers.
