VIDEO: Alyssa Naeher Saves England PK in 84th Minute to Help USWNT Advance to World Cup Final
By Michael Luciano
As the old saying goes, ball don't lie. After Becky Sauerbrunn gave England a penalty and was handed a controversial yellow card, United States keeper Alyssa Naeher stepped right up and made the save of her life, keeping the US in front 2-1 in the 84th minute by stopping a Steph Houghton penalty kick.
While much has been made about the US' attacking depth, headlined by Megan Rapinoe and today's two goalscorers in Christian Press and Alex Morgan, the back end is just as quality, with Naeher leading a defense that has only surrendered two goals in the entirety of the tournament.
With one of the most clinical midfielders up to take the penalty in Manchester City's Houghton, Naeher put the world on notice with regards to her quality as a goalie.
England came literal inches away from tying this game up at 2-2, but Naeher and the United States have managed to hold on to advance to the World Cup Final.
