VIDEO: Angel Hernandez Makes it His Sole Mission to Screw Over Joey Votto Multiple Times vs Cubs
By Sean Facey
If there's one thing that Joey Votto can take away from the Cincinnati Reds' 6-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Sunday, it's that Angel Hernandez has it out for him. The oft-maligned umpire made a handful of atrocious calls behind the plate Sunday to sit the keen-eyed Votto down on three separate occasions. It started with a questionable call on a pitch low and well out of the zone in the first inning.
It's understandable to give a pitcher, especially a veteran like Jon Lester, some leeway on the edges, but that's just ridiculous.
For his second strikeout, Hernandez decided to give Lester the inside edge and more.
Finally, he polished off the day by wringing up Votto on a pitch that was literally shoulder level.
Hernandez made atrociously bad strikeout calls three times for just one batter. Frankly, it's a miracle that Votto didn't charge at him after the third strikeout.
He's a player who prides himself on his plate discipline. To get rung up on three brutally bad calls must have been agonizing.
The fact that Angel Hernandez still has a job defies all logic. If he keeps making calls like these, robot umpires will be here before he can even say "strike three."
