VIDEO: Anthony Rizzo Rocks First-Inning Home Run Against Astros in Houston
By Zack Jiang
Anthony Rizzo has been on a tear as of late and started Game 1 against the Astros with a bang. In the top of the first, Rizzo crushed a two-run homer off of Gerrit Cole. Look at this thing go.
That's one heck of a way to start the the game.
On the season, Rizzo is batting .285 with 14 home runs and 40 RBI. He has been the top power hitter for the Cubs, who currently sit 1.5 games ahead of the Brewers at the top of the NL Central division.
Rizzo has picked up his play even more as of late. His numbers since May 8 have been absolutely ridiculous.
In order for the Cubs to have a shot at another World Series championship, they'll need the Rizzo at his best. Their current series against the Astros will be a tough challenge, as Houston boasts one of the best records in the game, and they're favored to make a run to the World Series out of the American League. It also kicks off a six-game road trip for the team, as they'll head to St. Louis after their series against Houston.
But if Rizzo keeps bombing away homers, the Cubs should have a much easier time.
