VIDEO: Bill Belichick Says He Didn't Hear About Andrew Luck Retirement News With a Straight Face
By Sean Facey
Bill Belichick is still his usual curmudgeonly self this year, but this pretty much proves that either man lives under a rock or he's the world's best liar. When asked about his initial reaction to the bombshell retirement of Indianapolis Colts star Andrew Luck, the famously stoic New England Patriots head coach seriously said that he didn't hear about it.
Seriously? This is one of the most shocking sports retirements of the decade. There's no way he didn't hear about it...right?
Belichick wasn't completely stony, though. He showed his admiration for the beleaguered quarterback, saying "We all have to make our decisions. He made his. I respect that."
Perhaps we shouldn't have expected much else from the hermit head coach. He rarely, if ever, talks about happenings that don't directly relate to the Patriots. Even if he did know he retired, it's obvious he's not going to let on.
He's got his own star quarterback to worry about anyway. Tom Brady is about to enter his 20th season in the NFL at 42 years of age, and Belichick's primary concern has to be making sure that he doesn't succumb to any of the injuries that forced Luck out of the league.
But at the end of the day, this was simply too big for him to miss. Maybe it's time that the 67-year-old open himself up to the world of social media.
