VIDEO: Blue Jays Reliever Tim Mayza Tears UCL in Hard-to-Watch Display on Mound

The Toronto Blue Jays ended up walking it off against the New York Yankees in 12 innings Friday night, but it came at a cost. Blue Jays left-handed reliever Tim Mayza entered last night's game in the 10th inning, but unfortunately, it was short-lived. On the eighth pitch of the at-bat against Didi Gregorius, Mayza immediately went to a knee in pain after airmailing the throw.

It didn't look good in the moment, and sadly, Mayza has been diagnosed with a torn UCL that will require Tommy John surgery. You could tell he knew it right away.

Not only will the 27-year-old southpaw miss the remainder of the 2019 season, but he'll be out for all of the 2020 campaign.

Despite being used as a situational lefty for most of the season, Mayza was a huge part of this bullpen now and moving forward. Unfortunately, the Blue Jays won't have his services until the 2021 season rolls around.

In 68 appearances out of the Blue Jays pen, Mayza posted a 4.91 ERA and 1.40 WHIP, while also racking up 55 strikeouts over 51.1 innings.
