VIDEO: Blue Jays Tie Things up Against Yankees With a Pair of 5th Inning Home Runs
By Brian Cass
With the Toronto Blue Jays down 2-0 against the New York Yankees heading into the fifth inning, Toronto was in desperate need of something to jump start their bats. Yanks pitcher Masahiro Tanaka isn't easily rattled, but it seems like he may have unraveled a bit in the fifth, as the Jays got a pair of homers from Randal Grichuk and Eric Sogard to tie things up at two apiece.
With all the momentum now on Toronto's side, they may be able to pull off the upset in the Bronx. A divisional win against the vaunted Yankees would be huge for the ball club, although they're likely already out of the playoff race with a 35-58 record.
A win against New York in this ball game would also ensure a series victory for the Blue Jays, who always seem to struggle against their divisional rival on the road. We'll have to wait and see if they can ride this fifth inning momentum to a victory.
