A delayed penalty commited by the Boston Bruins affected them the hard way in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final at TD Garden on Wednesday night, as Carl Gunnarsson scored his first career postseason goal at the opportune time to help the St. Louis Blues equal the series at one game apiece.
The extra attacker for St. Louis allowed them to set up multiple shots, with the slapper from Gunnarson being the only shot that mattered in the overtime period as the series moves to the Show-Me State for Games 3 and 4.
It capped off an overtime dominated by the Blues, with eight shots in their favor in under four minutes. The road team also outshot Boston 37-23 over the course of the game.
The OT goal was the first scoring play of the since late in the first period, when Vladimir Tarasenko scored to tie the game at 2-2. Four goals were scored in the opening period, including a goal for Boston that perhaps should not have counted.
Game 2 was a big-time response for the team that lost Game 1 after being up 2-0. Their next test will be to win in front of their home crowd and get "Gloria" going.
