VIDEO: Braves' Francisco Cervelli Slid Like an Absolute Lunatic and It's a Wonder He's Not Injured
By Sean Facey

Francisco Cervelli is playing with heart and hustle now that he's with a new team in the Atlanta Braves, but he might want to ease up just a bit. The team's new catcher made a wild, leaping slide into second base on a double, and it's an absolute miracle that he isn't injured.

Cervelli literally slammed his right leg into the side of the bag because he decided about five feet in front of it that he was going in for a pop-up slide. He looked more like he was about to jump into a swimming pool than slide into second base.
Even second base umpire Greg Gibson was concerned. The mic'd up umpire literally asked him "Are you alright?" before he even managed to say call him safe.
Francisco Cervelli is a creature of uncommon grace. That was quite the "slide"

Graceful or not, Cervelli beat the throw to second base and was safe, no matter the beating his body took while sliding into the bag.
Maybe next time Cervelli should make up his mind on how he's gonna approach the bag before he actually gets there, as I doubt this is how he drew up that slide in his head.
