VIDEO: Browns' Baker Mayfield Appears to Run Daniel Jones Audible on Worst 4th Down Call Ever
By Scott Rogust
The Cleveland Browns took up residency in GQ Magazine this summer, and one of the many talking points to come out of the interviews was quarterback Baker Mayfield criticizing the New York Giants' decision to draft quarterback Daniel Jones. Despite walking back the comments, Mayfield appears to still be uttering the Giants rookie's name. During the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Rams, the Browns decided to go for it on fourth down, with Mayfield apparently using Daniel Jones' name as an audible. Adding insult to injury, the play...was awful.
Let's forget about the alleged uttering of Jones' name and talk about the end result of this play. On fourth and nine, Mayfield handed the ball off to Nick Chubb, who got pummeled by Rams safety Eric Weddle well short of the first down marker.
Regardless of whose name was called by Baker Mayfield, it was still a terrible play call, resulting in a turnover on downs.
