VIDEO: Cam Newton Exits Panthers' Preseason Game vs Patriots With Foot Injury After Taking 2nd Sack
By Jerry Trotta
You could argue that the one thing that the Carolina Panthers wanted to escape preseason without was another Cam Newton injury. Their hopeful ambitions didn't last very long as the former league MVP was forced to leave Thursday's clash against the New England Patriots with a reported foot injury after being sacked for the second time.
Newton took a sack from Danny Shelton during his third possession and limped off the field to be attended to by the Panthers' medical staff. The focus of concern is reportedly on his left foot and ankle, but he was able to walk to the locker room under his own power. As expected, Carolina subsequently declared him out for the rest of the game to undergo further tests.
If there's a silver lining to be had here, it's that Cam's previously ailing shoulder looked healthy in his limited game time. He finished his first game action of the year 4-for-6 for 30 yards.
Let's hope that the three-time Pro-Bowler didn't suffer anything serious on the play. We can only presume that his status will be updated upon the conclusion of Thursday's game.
