VIDEO: Cam Newton Opens Up About Foot Injury and Says He 'Needs to Get Right'

Cam Newton is currently out indefinitely with a sprained left foot. He suffered the knock in the Carolina Panthers final preseason game, but pushed himself to be ready for Week 1 of the 2019 season. Given his erratic play through the first two weeks it soon became apparent that the former MVP was nowhere close to healthy. Well, Newton has come public for the first time since being shelved, opening up about the lingering foot injury in a video published on his YouTube channel.

“And I can honestly say if we had to do a quarterback sneak or I had to a quarterback run," Cam said addressing Ron Rivera's controversial play-call in Week 1. "I don’t know because I would have had to push off my foot. And for so long I’ve prided myself to say I can get one yard. I’m going to jump over you. I’m going to run through you. I’m going to run around you. And I wasn’t able to do [those things]. And I think that’s the thing that humbled me is like, ‘Cam ain’t the player that he used to be.’”

Make no mistake about it, folks, Cam will not return to the gridiron until he is 100% healthy and ready to give the Panthers the best form of himself.

For now, the Panthers seem to be in good hands with Kyle Allen under center, but it's certainly upsetting to see Newton so emotional while sidelined.
