VIDEO: Carmelo Anthony Says He Imagined His Jersey Being Retired at MSG During Clash With Knicks
By Michael Luciano
Carmelo Anthony returned to Madison Square Garden for the first time as a member of the Portland Trail Blazers and wrecked havoc, scoring 26 points during the team's loss. Anthony reflected on his time as a Knick after the game, and said that he expects the Knicks to retire his No. 7 jersey. In fact, Melo admitted he was picturing his jersey hanging from the rafters during Wednesday night's game.
Anthony made an All-Star game in each season that he played in New York. With an average of 24.7 points per game, and a scoring title, over 6.5 seasons in New York, it's no mystery why Melo remains a beloved figure in the Garden.
Carmelo has also mentioned that he expects his number to be retired in Denver, as he has still played more games with the Nuggets than he has with any other franchise and was just as successful, if not more so, as he was during his time as a Knick.
Be it No. 15 in Denver or No. 7 in New York, Anthony has to get at least one of those numbers hoisted up into the rafters. He may not have a championship to his name, but he has done just about everything else on an NBA court.
