VIDEO: Chauncey Billups Explains Why Carmelo Anthony Can't Buy an NBA Gig
Carmelo Anthony is undoubtedly one of the best players of his era, so it has amazed many as to why it seems like no team in the league wants him on their roster. Chauncey Billups, a potential Hall of Famer and former teammate to Melo, joined in on the conversation and offered a new perspective. The teams aren't the issue, Melo is.
Billups explains that Melo does everything right when it comes to the team and his appearance. He doesn't miss practices or games and is a solid teammate. The problem is that for Melo, scoring means more than winning.
Mr. Big Shot goes on to explain that a 20 point night with a team win was treated as a bad day, but a 36 point outing accompanied by a loss was almost preferred.
Chauncey believes that Carmelo hasn't been able to step back and change his mindset from a scorer and build his all-around game as a cagey veteran not afraid to do the little things necessary to win.
Billups knows all about this change in mindset. As he tried to prolong his career, he went from 'Mr. Big Shot' to role player. It's a tough but necessary adjustment.
If Anthony wants another chance to finish out his NBA career on his own terms, he will have to give up his scorer's mentality and adapt to whatever role a team needs him for.
