VIDEO: Childhood Red Sox Fan Alex Verdugo's Reaction to Getting Traded to Boston is Awesome
By Michael Luciano
The Mookie Betts trade that has been in the works for months finally went down Tuesday night. The 2018 AL MVP was traded, along with veteran starter David Price, to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a three-team deal that netted Boston outfielder Alex Verdugo and Minnesota Twins flamethrower Brusdar Graterol. Verdugo might be a former Dodger who grew up in Arizona, but he has always been a passionate Red Sox fan, and he seemed thrilled upon finding out he'd be joining the franchise he loved so much in his childhood.
Verdugo, who will turn 24 next season, finally made the leap from top prospect to quality pro hitter when he hit .294 with 12 home runs in a limited role in 2019.
The Betts trade gives Verdugo a chance to be slotted in as Boston's starting right fielder, and his playing career to this point has given us every indication that he will be a stud for the Red Sox.
While Red Sox fans are likely grieving over Mookie's departure, they can surely take solace in the fact Verdugo looks ecstatic about joining the club.
